Bish - watch out before you LOST this...
This is the same as the scroll lock key on most key boards. First
press of scroll lock == ctrl-S, second press == ctrl-Q.
This has a problem - it just locks the output device - input is still
accepted. So, while you are away after doing a ctrl-S, J. R. Loser can
come, type yes | rm -ir $HOME <RET> and leave, and there goes your
home directory... in front of your eyes, outputting wonderful patterns
on your screen ;-)
Scroll lock is not a substitute for screen locking at all. I have a
few suggestions, in ascending order of dependability. You can LOST
these:
1. Run pine, and press 'k' from the main menu (and maybe at other
menus, don't know)
2. Use screen as your shell and lock using screen (ctrl-A ctrl-X in
screen).
3. Install and use vlock. vlock -a will lock all VTs.
The first two will prompt for passwords to unlock, the last will use
your (or root's) login password.
Of course, X, KDE, GNOME all have their own locking mechanisms.

PS: Should have posted this bunch to LIH at the beginning of this
thread - doing so now.
