Let me guess, this is sendmail 8.11.[whatever] with default settings, on redhat 7.1 / pcqlinux? Take a look at http://www.sendmail.org/faq/section5.html#5.3.3 - or at least see the redhat release notes first, before trying to install and configure stuff.
