I am compiling CVS versions for the last 4 months now without any problems
:-) VCD does not play ??? Than what is happening ? I have compiled on PCQ
Linux 7.1 with disable-gcc-checking on 5 machines without any problems :-)

Sure. Think twice before saying that :-) Don't be like the author of that 
article who has written it with half knowledge and without reading the docs 
of mplayer.
