There is big thread due to this article on mplayer-user list just 2 days
back. Go through some of the responses. Try to compile and use mplayer
to know whether it is from hell or heaven :-) Download the latest CVS
snapshot. mplayer is into heavy development and the last stable release 0.5
is 2 months ooooollllllddddd. I have got cvs version on my machine.

cvs login
cvs update -dP 

periodically and you get all the latest updates.
