This is from a Debian GNU user's perspective....YMMV.

Galeon is currently beta software. Each time a new version is released,
there is a chance that incompatible changes have been made to the
configuration format in users' configuration directories. In some cases,
this may cause galeon to behave erratically or crash inexplicably !

In order to rectify these problems, users may be forced to run the
`galeon-config-tool --clean` program from a terminal, removing old
configuration files and directories. Keep in mind that this may NOT be
necessary, and will remove a user's bookmarks, history, cookies, and
other vital preferences !
