This is due to a reverse DNS lookup being done by the Linux machine to
identify the client machine connecting to it.

The DNS lookup timesout after about a minute and this is probably the
amount of time you might have to wait to get the FTP prompt.

If the machines on your LAN do not use DHCP, then you might want to add
the machine's IP address into the /etc/hosts file on the Linux
machine. This will help prevent the delay.
