That's what causing problem.. Not necessarily. This phenomenon is seen even when the ftp host is given as an IP address. This is more likely an issue caused when a hub. A good indicator will be if the pop3 server and smtp services if installed on the Linux box also show a long time showing "connected" before the actual flow of data. You will find that once after the connected, during the ftp connect, the initial listing of files is done, the data throughput will be excellent.
