Sometime on Jan 6, Kingsly John assembled some asciibets to say: > | 1> How do I disable the existing kernel audio drivers. Would just > |recompiling the kernel without support for i810 audio do or in addition > |do I have to modify any config files ? > > Yup recompiling the kernel is enough.
May not be necessary though. Just edit /etc/modules.conf and change your alias for ac97. It should be sound-service-0-3 or 4. To turn it off, alias it to off to prevent loading of the sound module, or to your new module (when you compile it) for your new card. > Can someone on the list throw some light on how safe/dangerous a thing > this is ?? IMO ... when you overclock your CPU ... chances are it'd burn > up... but what happens in this case ?? any device on the PCI bus could fry?? I don't know about the PIII, but I've been overclocking my Pentium 133 for about a year now. Could only get it up to 150, after that the performance of the FPU degrades.
