I am now trying out debian woody. I need the equivalent of rpm -qa. I have
gone thru the apt-get man page but couldn't find this. I looked in
/var/lib/apt/available and found the list of installed packages but that
seems to be a workaround.

I have done a bare bones install of woody. Now I want to install X. Doing
apt-get install xserver, xfree, X, gives some error. How do I find the name
of the file I need to install.

regards,

Sharukh.
