I would add blackbox, icewm and xfce. BTW xfce is a desktop environment, whereas the others are window managers ( therefore lighter ). Moreover, you might comment off those 7 virtual terminals in /etc/inittab, run X with a shallower colour depth. Dont run the fontserver over the network, (get the fonts from the file). Most of your time you would probably be on your terminal emulator, so choose a lean one ( especially if you have slow scrolling ). rxvt is far smaller than xterm. You can avoid running a mailer if you use pine, but then you have to postpone the sending till you are online. > > browser, > Get used to lynx. For speeding up browsing I would suggest a disk caching nameserver like pdnsd ( it rocks ). Oh, and tune your MTU and enable compression in pppd. > > instant messenger, > ariyahoo... You can also shrink your kernel size by recompiling and as they all say, dont run the unwanted daemons -- sreangsu _______________________________________________ linux-india-help mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/linux-india-help
