I would add blackbox, icewm and xfce. BTW xfce is a desktop environment,
whereas the others are window managers ( therefore lighter ).

Moreover, you might comment off those 7 virtual terminals in /etc/inittab,
run X with a shallower colour depth. Dont run the fontserver over the
network, (get the fonts from the file).

Most of your time you would probably be on your terminal emulator, so
choose a lean one ( especially if you have slow scrolling ). rxvt is
far smaller than xterm. ( avoid Kterm, it hogs memory )

You can avoid running a mailer if you use pine, but then you have to
postpone the sending till you are online.

or links which does tables and colours. ( I have finally removed netscape
in favour of galeon.)

For speeding up browsing I would suggest a disk caching nameserver like
pdnsd ( it rocks ). Oh, and tune your MTU and enable compression in pppd.

You can also shrink your kernel size by recompiling and as they all say,
dont run the unwanted daemons
