HDD partitions are not user nameable. They are recognised as
/dev/hdxN (where x is  a,b,c etc and N is a  number).  These 
are picked up by the kernel and cannot be even named, forget
renamed.

These are however, placed on mount points like  /, /usr etc.
It is possible to change the mount points, provided  it is a
data partition. If you do it on one of the system partitions
on a running system, the system will break.

On a running system such things are not advocated. These can
be done on a non-mounted system from a  rescue  disk set  or
a stand-alone distro. If system partitions are involved, the
/etc/fstab should be suitably modified before booting.

BTW, What is your exact requirement ?
