A round connector (with 6 pins) is a PS/2 connector.

See if the /dev/mouse is a symlink to /dev/psaux.
If not, make a link to psaux and name it as mouse

as root do

cd /dev
ln -sf /dev/psaux mouse

Then in your X configuration use the PS/2 mouse type and try again.
