The way I see it, a professional is someone who gets paid to do 
something, while an amateur is someone who does it for the thrill.  e.g. 
professional athletes v/s amateur athletes.  For a long time, 
professionals could not compete at the Olympics.  Jim Thorpe (a Native 
American) was stripped of his 100m gold when it was revealed that he 
played baseball for 25cents at age 10.

Since he isn't paying us for our advice, we aren't his professionals.  
Some people on this list may get paid to do this kind of work.  I don't.  
I'm a programmer, and that's what I get paid to do.
