That needs a correction. Oracle is most stupid software regardless of platform on which you are using. Degree of relative stupidity varies depending upon how smart you rate your platform..On windows it looks less stupid etc.. > 4. It eats up all machine resources, with least regard to other processes. Start a database and 350MB memory gone.. these figures are from HP-UX machines.. One thing We did was to order more RAM with Oracle 9i.. Biggest machine we had wasn't working enough for oracle9i.. Why preclaim? Can't it scale up as and when data grows.. Sounds stupid whn there are not even 100 rows in all tables and 350MB RAM is gone.. Postgres is much smarter at that load I would say... I can't help ut to quote one of my group members here... "With every relase oracle makes sure that their earlier releases looks impressive.." How true..
