That's because you write without thinking out the whole problem.

If you observe, there are 10 patches which need to be applied (there is
no straight jump, you have to go progressively).

So in that case, instead of typing out 'bzcat patchname | patch -p0' ten
times, it would be easier to run a script which does everything for you.

Again, that's what I think, dunno, probably what you call dumbing down
of Unix, I view as simplifying it...

Probably you could write a anti-dummies book which teaches users how to
do a 'tput clear' than a simple 'clear'...

I guess, this 'dumbing down of unix syndrome' is an after effect of loss
of power/godly status.
