Dont loose heart!!! Instead of using source, I will strongly advise you to go for the package (rpm on RH ). Install the package, and most of the configuration hassles are taken care off. mysql installs coolly on most distro. As regards interface, you can use php, cgi, perl, what ever suits you most.
