Flaimbait? OK here is the gist. You want a fast database for mostly reads and few updates, pick mysql but you want a near complete implemetation of SQL ith subselects/functions/procedures and every other goodie combined, choose postgres. As a bonus you get object oriented database. A lot depends upon your requirements. There is very little overlap between these two though they are busy catching each other in opponents strong area. Like postgres offering faster read performance and mysql offering better sql. Read the docs and take your pick.. You certainly don't need oracle..
