Dear Prabhu,
No you need not to turn ON plain text password.
Create m/c account as
#adduser mac1$ -d /dev/null
#smbpasswd -a -m mac1$
Your need to create a user which has all the rights e.g root.
#smbadduser root
#smbpasswd root
Here root will be the user name which let you to join the domain in Linux.
Also if it gives "Access denied " as the problem them make sure the login user
does have reading access to
/etc/samba/smbpasswd file.
Check for interface on which samba is listening and the netmask of client & server
(actually both should match.)
You should also run tcpdump to see which one is not hand shaking from any other
client in LAN.
Regards,
-Yash
