a _shell_ account? bloody hell... providing unix accounts + ssh for 30
million odd users is rather expensive, trust me. Then there is the security
nightmare with so many people ssh'd in (forget telnet).
Virtual domains, virtual mailboxes, users in mysql db, reading mail from a
webmail interface (or pop3 / imap) from maildirs mounted on a huge complex of
file servers ...

/sbin, /usr/sbin ... for system related commands
/bin, /usr/bin, /usr/local/bin ... for user commands
/usr/X11R6/bin ... for X program commands
