rpms are useful from time to time, but I highly
suggest compiling Xine from the source tarballs. I
don't have a great grasp of how rpms are built, but
there have been a *lot* of posts to the xine-user list
about the rpm spec files, that they're buggy and being
worked on, but I'm a little hazy on whether someone
has actually volunteered to take on the job - I guess
it's a big one : ). Anyway, there's that, and there
have been MANY improvement in Xine between 0.9.8 and
0.9.9 - dl it and build it yourself. The howto on the
Xine page gives good instructions; do the xine-libs
first, and then the xine-ui, it tells you how if
you're uncomfortable or unfamiliar with the process
