actually, it most likely did.  delete your .xinitrc file and it should 
work.

also, better to use something like gaim or everybuddy instead of yahoo 
messenger.

everybuddy even supports peer to peer file transfer for yahoo messenger 
which the linux client of ymessenger cannot handle.  also, it doesn't 
crash as often as ymessenger.  get the latest rpm (0.4.2) from 
http://www.everybuddy.com/
