Two cents from me...

1)A system is as secure as it's admin.
2)It's easy to secure and maintain it secure if it's open source. 

IMO second directive overrides first. Take your pick..

Useless debate IMO. Better get some work done in time wasted. There is no 
single conclusion which fits all scenarios..
