All you need to do is boot from the cdrom and edit /etc/fstab on the hardisk
to reflect the new position on the harddisk .. and then use a bootfloppy or
CD(if it allows) to boot into the harddisk .. and you are back in your old
setup!! 

Don't forget to run lilo once you have booted in ...

( if you are on grub you should be able to edit the fstab from grub itself I
think. so you don't even need a bootdisk/cdrom)

My linux hard disk has been in all four possible IDE slots without
me ever having to reinstall the OS! 
Reinstalling as a solution for a linux/*nix problem would have the lowest
probability! These are operating systems that can even have their kernel
updated without a reboot!! It's just a matter of knowing how it's done!
