If all you want to do is watch movies with decent quality you can always run X at a really low resolution "320x200" "320x240" and you'll get jitter free video even on a card with 2MB of RAM.(In fact full screen movie playback would be better than in windows!) > So I decide to buy a new graphics card. If there is a time to warn me, > please do it now :-) I've always used mplayer with the xv driver.. and it definitely beats the rest of the vo options... but that's at my regular desktop resolution of 1280x1024... at 320x200/320x240 .. it doesn't matter how lousy your hardware! > The one choice I easily have here is to buy one Nvidia Riva TNT2 AGP > with 32 MB on board - for Rs 1350/-. It's a great card... have been using it for over 2 years now... and I paid nearly 10times that amount to get it back then and have no regrets! But the card has almost reached the end of life-cycle... UT2003 won't run on it.(requires a GeForce atleast for now.) .. so if that is the shape of things to come... then it's time to go for a better card. I'm told a GeForce2 64MB is available for 2500/3000 rupees... that would be a better option if you also play games.. but if you don't ... you won't be disappointed with the TNT2.
