By GODs grace man.. dont tell that any admin worth his salt would expect boxes to be secure by default ..... now i really think this thread is going way out of realms ...
Here was what i meant in my original post :
1. There is no such thing as a secure distro ( forget the damn kernel )
2. Distros like Slackware, Redhat are good at the server tasks but week at security .. admins need to sweat out to REALLY secure this OS.
3. For those whose life depend on server security, they need to check OS like EnGarde .... not just because they are secure by default but also because the base of such distros is also secure . .for exampls some of this secure OS WONT allow u to install a software unless u have a MD5 checksum .... some wont allow u to enable telnet ...
4. Ofcourse u can make ur debian or Slackware as secure as one of this
commercial Linux distros .... difficult but possible.
So its the admins who make or break the strength of a linux distro.

Vipul

Well, IMHO, it is these OSen that create admins who cannot secure their
distros. They expect security out of the box. That doesn't happen -
ever.
If all distros had to be secured (and were labelled as such), then you'd
suddenly find that many more admins will take the trouble to figure out
how.
