that i cant say, but on linux i would definitely try out octave which is
almost but not quite unlike MATLAB. REasons for using octave:
its GPL, if thats not a reason enough, in octave you can use the library
functions directly in c++ code, thereby gaining a lot on speed. I presume
even matlab has this feature but i gues it costs a fortune to get this
feature added. Moreover if you compile octave yourself and link it to the
ATLAS library as opposed to the default BLAS, it sure speeds up
