Of course. But becoming an expert and using your expertise to make a
living are different ball games. Typically, this is what happens is
corporate circles:

IT: We need a Linux administrator.
HR: Ok, any distinguishing marks?
IT: That's easy, look for RHCE in the resume.

Get the idea?

Well, he has a doctorate in CSE. That amounts to something even in these
decadent days, I suppose.

At least in India, a self respecting sysadmin with middle-class
mentality (career, retirement planning, tax sops, kids' education,
housing loan...) should get these certifications, IMO.
