ext3 is ext2 + journal file. ext3 gives better recovery from file system anomalies due to causes like power failure. U don't need to run fsck. This is very usefull if you have a huge partition with thousands of files.
Now this one is just a minor query. I have mounted my new partition has ext2 and my old linux partition is ext3. What exactly is the diff?
Can i convert from one to the other?Yes. If you have ext2 then only option is ext3. If you are starting from scratch then RieserFS, JFS are other options for a journaling file systems. Each have their own merits.
It should increase the performance! Depending on the system load, swap space is not used if you have sufficient physical RAM. Thumb rule for swap space = physical RAM * 2.And i increased the ram to 320mb from 256mb. Now will this cause a performance problem? My laptop seems awfully slow from my last linux boot. Should i change my swap settings or something.
