postconf -n and logs are usually more informative.
Is postfix authoritative for $mydomain ?
Is $mydomain in mydestinations or in virtual_alias_domains?

I think suresh's HOWTO needs to be updated for the newer Postfix version. I 
suggest reading the Postfix FAQ, particularly the entry
faq.html#somelocal
