Not yet. I have just bought a CD-RW and tested on this.
But I think it won't work (the way I expect it to) as yet.
The kernel patch I use says this:
"Currently only writing to CD-RW discs is possible."

And the linux/block/pktcdvd.c file says:
------------------------------------------
TODO: (circa order of when I will fix it)
 - Only able to write on CD-RW media right now.
 - check host application code on media and set it in write page
 - Generic interface for UDF to submit large packets for variable length
   packet writing
 - interface for UDF <-> packet to negotiate a new location when a write
   fails.
 - handle OPC, especially for -RW media
------------------------------------------

However, an alternative procedure is (not exciting) mentioned in
the README.Debian file of udftools (in Debian):
---------------------------------------------------------
As root, execute the following commands. (After "count=", supply the
required size in MB of the filesystem.)

 dd if=/dev/zero of=udfimage bs=1M count=10
 mkudffs udfimage
 mkdir udfmnt
mount -o loop -t udf udfimage udfmnt

YOU NEED LINUX 2.4 WITH UDF READ *AND* WRITE SUPPORT ENABLED. Now you
can copy data to the "udfmnt" directory. After an "umount udfmnt", the
file "udfimage" can be written to the medium.
----------------------------------------------------------

I shall be trying this on a Rs.9 variety CD-R. Not much
to lose :-)

Did not get an opportunity yet (No Windows in my Linux box at present)
But will test this soon.
