Hi,

I am using this script to take the cvs backup regularly on daily basis from
the cvs server. This script is configured through cron to run at 2 AM and
the logs are directed to a seperate file in var/log .

/etc/bkupcvs.sh
-----------------------------------
#!/bin/sh
/etc/rc.d/init.d/xinetd stop
rm -f /usr/cvsbkup.tar.gz
cd /home
tar -czvf /usr/cvsbkup.tar.gz cvs
/etc/rc.d/init.d/xinetd start
mount -t smbfs -o username=Administrator,password=xxxxxx //ntserver/cvsbkup
/NTcvsbkup -rw
cp /usr/cvsbkup.tar.gz /NTcvsbkup/.
umount /NTcvsbkup
------------------------------------------------

Cron file :

0 2 * * * /etc/backcvs.sh >> /var/log/bkupcvs.log 2>&1

The problem is everyday the script is unable to stop xinetd. I the log file
it says : - /var/log/bkupcvs.log

"
Stopping xinetd: [FAILED]

"
There is no error when the script tries to start xinetd towrads the end of
the script. Xinetd is always on ( running ) before the script is being
executed as the
users are able to access the server.

When I stop xinetd by using the same command in the script there is no
problem.

As per the messages file there is no problem in stopping and starting
xinetd.

Please tell me what can be the reason of xinetd shown as failed in the
bkupcvs.log file

Warm Regards,
 Kumar.
