Yes. My earlier machine was a Celeron 400MHz with Matrox G200 card. It
would complain of a slow cpu if I chose the output driver as mga.
Even otherwise it gave a better perofrmance than the winplayers. Xine
would never run the avi/mpegs with acceptable speed.

Of course, now that I have a better machine, both of them deliver good
performance.

My suggestion for the OP would be to try the different options to vo and
try cutting down on X depth. A combination would yield a workable
solution.
