Well, it's bit of a hack actually. Here is what i did -  edit the gdm
start-up file in /etc/init.d/ , change gdm to pdm everywhere inside
the file, add gdm to start at runlevel 5 and finally edit /etc/inittab to make 
runlevel 5 default. 

Also, you might want to, back up current gdm script in /etc/init.d/
