Prabhat you were slightly off.... dmesg does the job and informs me that
the usb-storage device is assigned scsi dev/sda as listed:

hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/2, assigned device number 4

Attached scsi disk sda at scsi1, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
SCSI device sda: 256000 512-byte hdwr sectors (131 MB)
 sda: sda1
FAT: bogus logical sector size 20487
VFS: Can't find a valid FAT filesystem on dev 08:00.

VFS: Can't find a valid FAT filesystem on dev 08:00.

Now the problem of what is the file system?? As is evident from above.
Any more help / interpretations?
