At last I could connect to sancharnet using wvdial. I went through the options file /etc/ppp/options and since I was getting the following error in the logs : Jun 26 21:48:44 woody pppd[4097]: Using interface ppp0 Jun 26 21:48:44 woody pppd[4097]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS0 Jun 26 21:49:14 woody pppd[4097]: LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests Jun 26 21:49:14 woody pppd[4097]: Connection terminated. Jun 26 21:49:14 woody pppd[4097]: Exit. I enabled the 'silent' option : # With this option, pppd will not transmit LCP packets to initiate a # connection until a valid LCP packet is received from the peer (as for # the "passive" option with old versions of pppd). silent Now wvdial works too.
