Thanks a lot for the mails all of you. Many people have suggested nagios. Has anyone used it in real life to monitor servers? What are their reports on it. Is it easy to install and maintain?
We use it (and its previous version, netsaint) to monitor something like 4 /24 blocks full of servers.
It works quite well once you get it set up (which is as tough as your network / list of services to monitor is extensive ... for upto a dozen hosts, it should be fairly ok)
