First of all would recommend you not to use linuxconf. Instead, learn how
it actually goes and configures (and breaks) parameters in files all over
the system.

Check for a file /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0:1 or something 
like that. Basically all network interface scripts are put in 
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts

After doing that, restart your network service. Dunno how you do that on 
Mandrake. On RH its a simple service network restart.
