Ooops I forgot to mention a 'light weight too' because flash memory on embedded system is luxury, and security is a secondary issue.

Do you absolutely need an FTP server? We made a custom distribution here to fit onto a 64MB Flash Disk [ended up doing it in 10MB, compressed RAM image] and had a similar problem. We had OpenSSH on the distro and realised that we don't need an FTP server, since we could scp files to the box. WinSCP is available for Windows and works with OpenSSH.
