This is a M$ services related issue and not quite OS specific.
AFAIK, there are no other mailer besides Outlook Express even
in Windoze which does this. Hotmail is a HTTP mail service, and
even there, Microsoft makes frequent changes of the HTTP links.
It is difficult to keep pace with such vagrancies.
I wrote a curl based script to do this about 2 years ago. I
gave up after a few months since I found it difficult to keep
pace with the changes. Presently, a new problem of msn.com has
also arisen to add to the confusion ;-)

AFAIK, none ...

This perl script from Peter Hawkins is all there is at the
moment. Even here, you should be constantly on your toes, and
d/l the latest fixes which come every 2-3 months (every time
server configurations are changed by Microsoft) ...
