This is a M$ services related issue and not quite OS specific.
AFAIK, there are no other mailer besides Outlook Express even in Windoze which does this. Hotmail is a HTTP mail service, and even there, Microsoft makes frequent changes of the HTTP links. It is difficult to keep pace with such vagrancies.
Foxmail does this in windoze.
