Hello Everybody, I am having a Xeon server with 512MB of RAM running RH8.0. This server is running QMAIL 1.03, Apache 1.3.19 and squirrelmail 1.2.10. I am finding that all the time there are more than 10 httpd processes are running and the top command shows that the httpd process is taking more than 90% of CPU. I have not done any special tuning of the software. Am I interpreting the top output in a wrong way or do I need to fine tune apache? Where can I get the explanation of the various output that the top command is giving? I tried to search through google but without much fruitful result.
Please help me to find the real problem. Some time the httpd service is freezing and I have to restart the machine. So the matter is now becoming a bit serious. The machine is supporting 540 mail boxes and most of them use web access for the mail.
