Check out http://www.lirc.org/tv_cards.html if your card is listed there... (as you can see lots of pixelview models are listed there!) I think on the 2.4 kernel you can compile the lirc modules without patching the kernel(haven't used lirc+2.4).. but for 2.6 you need to download a patch.
