I am running Win2K/Slackware 9.1 with a Rockwell/Conexant internal modem with vendor id 127A and device id 2015. Ocassionally , i get the error "Unable to open modem" and the modem does not respond till i reboot the box. This usually happens whenever i run apps like Arson (cd burning front end) or K3b, which , i think try to contact one of the cddb servers and in the process lock up the modem (purely my conjecture here) . What do your pppd logs say (from /var/log/messages, or wherever your distro is logging these)?
What's the output of a dmesg, and an lsmod (assuming this conexant modem is loaded with a kernel module of some sort)?
