actually the aci7xxx is a very old driver and most of the kernels ahve default support for the same.,....so I wouldnt really suggest trying some other kernel....probably if you could post the details of the logs you are getting when you try to install....then that would help us in determining what is wrong....
I know it is well supported.
It is just that (at least in slackware), the default kernel, bare.i, doesn't do scsi. You have to choose an alternate kernel from the install cd if you want scsi, or xfs, or something else.
