I was thinking of purchasing a laptop and was basically looking for something which is Linux compatible (which means that the sound card, network card and graphics atleast should work ). Has anyone used Linux on a laptop before ? What all do I need to keep in mind ? Any recommendations ?
I am a happy user of IBM Thinkpad R32 Its a P4 laptop. Sound, Network Card, Graphics, Apm, USB, pcmcia, hotkeys work with vanilla linux kernel. I never used the inbuilt modem [ac97 spec], but some websites says that it is also supported!! I would recommend the Thinkpad, as its linux support is really good. I used Toshiba before, but I would vote in favor of Thinkpad. [BTW, days ago, I did dropped my thinkpad [running condition] from my hand!! Surprisingly, nothing happened to it.
I was looking at Dell system mostly.
It is cheap, but not robust!!
