Sorry - didn't follow you there. You are saying that one should get a list of these checks from these sources - SpamAssassin and xbl.spamhaus.org and integrate them into the checking by the MTA or that one should rely on these sources to for the checks intead of callbacks?
xbl.spamhaus.org is a blocklist of compromised hosts and open proxies.
spamassassin has a bunch of tests for fake headers, and spammers who forge email addresses in the smtp envelope from typically forge a whole lot of other headers.
