Nearly all characters on the keyboard can be escaped for a
valid filename. AFAIK, the ones that cannot be escaped are "/"
and "." by itself or "..". The period or double period can
appear in unison with other chars. But "/" cannot appear
anywhere on the string since it is used for a path seperator.

The "/" surely is one. If period by itself is not counted then
what is the other ?

Devdas, I did not get the meaning of NUL from the keyboard
point of view. Do you mean 'space' by itself ? This too can be
escaped.
