Subject: no sound / reliance modem stup
I am new to linux witha basic intro to UNIX(6 years ago! mostly forgotten).I have
Redhat version8.0 installed as the primary op-system along with Windows XP.I have two
questions/problem:;
(i) Sound is not available under linux though i have on board sound and it works in
windows.I have tried autodetecting soundcard through the option in the nautilus file
manager but it always takes me through the process of giving sample sound which I can
never hear .I have tried playing audio Cd but to no avail.
(ii) I have a reliance internet connection which works on Windows. Recently i
downloaded their Rconnect1.0 for Linux.after running the command sh install.sh the
setup of the dialer finally gives a message "modem not detected at /dev/ttys0". I
tried to contact reliance help desk but their reply was "no customer support for linux
. try contacting a linux guru".
My hardware vendor is not familiar with linux and i am a IAF oficer located at a
remote location . Please help !
