mutt configuration can be automated. It can be easily maintained. Can

I'm sure you will be busy searching for some tool to automate the
process, while I would have mutt setup already ;-).
What's the use of configuring a software if it's not going to be used
there ?
But I really admire your example of mutt.

Same goes with Microsoft Word - the wizards only complicate things, not simplify!

I'm not against wizards and stuff... just that they are too
newbie-friendly, and not flexible enough for a seasoned sysadmin's
needs. A Linux sysadmin who finds comfort in wizards is mostly clueless
about whats going on underneath these shiny interfaces. Lately, I have
come across a lot of Linux "sysadmins" who have no clue about how to
disable a service without using redhat-config-* or chkconfig (just in
case, they had to boot from a knoppix live CD-ROM to rescue their broken
redhat setup).

A distro should take into account a large base of users.
Yes, you're right that wizards are not flexible (or infact too
irritating ) for a system administrator.
But even, after completing a small wizard (in case of debian) the
sysadmin isn't shot dead if he modifies the configuration files. :-) .

A person having comfort with wizards and who is totally clueless vi-ing
or emacs-ing the configuration files shouldn't be termed as a system
administrator.
