Top/bottom/inline posting is there because sometimes we need to quote the
earlier post(s)(mainly in mailing lists). But, why we need to quote? Possible
reasons:
- to answer the question(s)
- to suggest alternative(s)
- counter argument(s)
- to correct
- to let the reader understand the context
- to express personal view(s) regarding the same topic
- while replying partial part of the post
- to maintain history
- and more...
Now, after making sure why you want to quote, consider following points while
choosing top/bottom/inline posting
- how will you save bandwidth
- how will you save disk space
(may be in very small way but) remove the unrelated part
- how will you keep the discussion context
- how will you save readers time to understand your reply and
the context (most important point)
Generally, top-posting is not a good netiquette. Just to support,
Answer: Because it's more readable that way.
Question: Why should I bottom-post replies or interleaved replies
with quoted text to the mailing list?
